Ruckus SC
OVERVIEW
This project grew out of a desire to make live sports culture more welcoming and participatory. Working with Orlando City supporters group Ruckus, I used design as a way to lower barriers for new fans, strengthen shared rituals, and support the energy that makes supporter culture thrive.
The Context
Supporter culture thrives when people feel confident showing up and joining in. For many fans, chants and rituals are what turn a match into a shared experience, but they can also feel intimidating to learn from the outside. This project focused on making that culture more accessible.
In collaboration with Ruckus leadership, I designed chant flyers intended to sit directly in stadium cup holders during home matches. The goal was simple: give new supporters an easy way to learn chants in real time and invite non-members to participate without feeling out of place. I handled the design, printing, and hands-on distribution myself at matches, working within the constraints of visibility, timing, and in-stadium conditions.
Beyond printed materials, I also contributed to painting a large tifo for a rivalry match against Atlanta United FC. This work reinforced the same idea at a larger scale: collective effort, shared ownership, and visual impact driven by the community itself.
This project focused on lowering the barrier to participation and making match day more accessible to everyone in the stands. The flyers and tifo weren’t designed to be observed, but to be used in the moment helping first-time attendees learn chants, inviting non-members to join in, and turning individual voices into a shared, inclusive presence inside the stadium.
